Calasetta is a charming seaside village located on the island of Sant'Antioco, in the south-west of Sardinia. The historic centre is built around the Torre Sabauda, an ancient fortification built in the 18th century for coastal defence, now a privileged vantage point over the port and the Sardinian Sea. The lighthouse warns sailors coming from the Spanish coast and the island of San Pietro of a particularly dangerous stretch of sea. According to one legend, the name Mangiabarche derives from the appearance of the shallows and rocks, which are said to resemble the teeth of a sea monster.
