About this place
Casa Capol, (Andeer),
The central vaulted hall, featuring the coats of arms of the Graubünden nobility, was designed at the end of the 16th century by the itinerant painter Hans Ardüser, who created his final work here in 1614; it forms the heart of the apartment and features a dining table for six by the south-facing window.
The VIAMALA-STUBE in the south-east corner is fully panelled and is the favourite bedroom of the owner, FWN. It features a collection of engravings depicting the mountain pass route from Chur to the Roffla Gorge, with the passage through the 'evil path', the Viamala, naturally taking up the largest space. The travertine washbasin is concealed within a historic cupboard.
The ARDÜSER-STUBE on the south side commemorates the Graubünden itinerant painter Hans Ardüser (1557-1617), who, commissioned by the builder Hans von Capol, left his last dated work from 1614 in the Jenatsch-Stube. It is the only double room in the palazzo without its own washbasin.
The DE MARCHION - STUBE, the master bedroom with a view of the garden, commemorates the noble de Marchion family, which had a 'blue' Schams branch and a 'red' branch in Valendas. The palazzo passed to the de Marchion family upon the marriage of the last representative of the Schams branch of the von Capol family; the de Marchion family produced many Landammans and officers.
The BATHROOM, which has a separate toilet and shower, is fitted with underfloor heating to ensure it stays pleasantly warm even when walking barefoot.
The VAULTED KITCHEN is equipped with a ceramic hob, oven, dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, extractor fan, Nespresso machine and toaster, plus crockery for six people. Sets for fondue and raclette are available for cosy evenings.
In the JENATSCH-STUBE, the richly decorated carved ceiling was created in 1612, featuring the coats of arms of the builders Hanns von Capoll, Landammann of Schams in 1612, and Catharina von Capoll, née Mattli, in 1612. In 1614, Hans von Capol commissioned the painter Hans Ardüser - whom he had known since his youth in Flims - to paint the largest room of the palazzo for ceremonial purposes, featuring allegories of the virtues, all manner of animals and mythical creatures, and a large hunting scene with Hans von Capol on horseback. Six comfortable leather armchairs invite you to enjoy an aperitif and watch television, whilst the large round table seats ten guests. The library contains plenty of reading material for friends of Graubünden.
