About this place

Relax in a 4-seasons ski house in the Berkshire Mountains with outdoor hot tub, long-range views, and a beautiful meadow as your back yard.

Relax in a beautiful mountain setting at this 4-season ski house within walking distance of the slopes at Otis Ridge Ski Area (the best ski area south of the Vermont border). In fact, the back-yard (actually a meadow full of wildlife and flowers) used to be part of the ski area and there are still remnants of the rope-tow on the edge of the property. The long-range views off the back porch are fantastic.
The space
This house has 3 bedrooms, , 4 beds, 2.5 baths, a pull-out couch in the living room, another pull-out couch and a pull-out ottoman in the walk-out basement, and an electric air mattress to sleep up to 8 people (no extra guest fee on the first 2 people of the group). There are large flat screen TV's in the living room, master bedroom, and the walk-out basement/game room (there's a shuffleboard table, darts, and chess/backgammon table down there). There's also a large deck with half of it covered and screened in. Enjoy a warm gas-fireplace in the living room, a real woodstove (with free wood) in the finished walk-out basement, or a soak in an outdoor 7-person Artesian Spas Grand Cayman hot tub with all the bells and whistles overlooking the meadow. If you're looking for relaxation, this place and the surrounding area can't be beat. Tons of great hiking, numerous lakes, and other attractions like the towns of Great Barrington, Lee, and Lennox (all about 20 minutes away), and popular attractions like Tanglewood, and Jacob's Pillow, just a short scenic drive away.

Guest access
You will have access to all parts of the house, including a washer and dryer in the basement.

This house works best as a family retreat or a romantic getaway for couples. It does not work as a place to have large or loud parties as it is located within a quiet neighborhood and has new hard-wood floors. If you are considerate of other people's property, I would love to host your stay and share why my family grew up skiing Otis and why it is the best place to ski on a powder day, or just relax in nature any time of the year.t.

Child friendly

  • Children's books and toys

No events allowed

No smoking allowed

Smoking is allowed outside and in the covered part of the deck as long as windows are not left open to let smoke back into the house.

Parking Included

We have a semi-circular stone and dirt driveway with a relatively steep entrance and exit. If you come in the winter, it is highly recommended that you have all-wheel drive and good tires. It is almost impossible to keep the driveway free of snow and ice in the winter. We do have traction mats, road salt, shovels, an ice chipper, and kitty litter available. There is a plowing service. When it snows, you may have to temporarily move your vehicle(s) to allow the plow to get through. If you have all-wheel drive and good tires, you shouldn't have problems. If you are older and afraid of a fall, this might not be the place for you to visit in the winter.

English
I am a high school science teacher living near Philadelphia. I grew up in a Southbury, CT and went to college at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. In a addition to public school teaching, I've worked for the National Marine Fisheries Service collecting catch data while living aboard commercial fishing boats in the Bering Sea of Alaska. I've also taught marine biology in the Florida Keys, worked as a Naturalist in California, and spent 2 winters as a ski bum in North Lake Tahoe. My passions are skiing, pole vaulting (I coach and still try to do it myself), kite surfing, environmental issues, being a father, and watching the Minnesota Vikings predictably blow it every year. I have a son and daughter born in 2004 and 2005.

Getting around

You will need a car. In the winter, it is highly highly recommended that you have an all-wheel drive vehicle with good tires. I have a semi-circular stone driveway with a steep entrance and exit. Although I have a plow service, it is almost impossible to keep the driveway free of snow and ice in the winter. If you have all-wheel drive and good tires (preferably snow tires), you should be fine. I also have snow-melt salt, kitty litter, traction mats, snow shovels, and an ice chipper available. If you are older and worried about falling on ice, this is probably not a good place for you to visit in the winter.
