Don't miss the Calvin Coolidge Homestead. You will feel like you have stepped back in time. Open May-October~Seasonal. The cheese factory is open year-round.
One of the oldest cheese factories in the USA is here at the homestead! Award-winning cheese!

Some history...... This home which you will pass on the way to the homestead was built by Alecia's great great great-great-grandparents Polly "Maria" and James Smith Brown in 1865. They had 8 children.

Here below is a picture of the grandparents in their old age. Polly "Maria" Taylor is seated far left and next to her, is her husband, James Smith Brown. The man kneeling with the dog is said to be Hyde Leslie who kept a diary of his days working on the farm. Polly was at the birth of Calvin Coolidge as she was considered the town nurse in those times....and she had 8 children of her own.

They had a working farm and sold everything from vegetables to eggs to meat in Boston.
Polly "Maria" Taylor was a beautiful young woman. Polly "Maria" Taylor Brown was at the birth of President Calvin Coolidge. "Maria", as she was called, was noted to be a "natural nurse" and had sympathy for those in trouble. She was called to assist at the birth. Her daughter, Avis Brown was only 10 years old at the time. Reports say that Avis remembers a small man coming to the farmhouse door who said, "Victoria is having a little tea party today and would like to have you come over." Avis wondered why anyone would have a tea party in the morning. Maria returned home and announced, "Victoria has a boy!"

The Coolidge Homestead. You will feel like you have taken a step back in time when you visit this museum which is actually about the old town of Plymouth called "The Notch" by locals.

Plymouth Notch, Vermont 05056
Plymouth Cheese is the second-oldest cheese factory in the United States. It was founded in 1890 by Calvin Coolidge’s father, John Coolidge to make good use of the leftover milk from the farm. It’s now a state historic site in Vermont…and they still make the original recipe cheese that was made in 1890—a very early version of Vermont Cheddar.”

There has to be one in every crowd. Sorry that this is what was posted when featuring this very old cheese factory which has had new life blown into it and has gone on to win several blue ribbons around the world. Oprah Winfrey featured cheese as one of her "favorite things" in her magazine. This reviewer obviously does not know cheese!
