Opened in 1985, Old Nags Head Cafe is located in the heart of Old Nags Head, NC on the beach road. It is a small, quaint restaurant offering traditional and contemporary southern dishes. Putt Putt golf is always a fun family activity and there are several courses throughout the outer banks.

Drink plenty of water. This is mostly common sense. You should always drink water when you are in the sun and it is hot and humid so your body doesn’t get dehydrated.

Rip currents are strong and narrow currents which move directly away from the shore as pictured above. Rip currents can be very scary and very dangerous if you don’t know what is happening or what to do. A rip current is not the same as undertow. It simply carries objects (including people) beyond the breaking of waves.

Learn about the Wright Brothers and how they changed history. A small museum tells the history while outside there is a panoramic view of the Wright Camp where the first flight took place. It is run by the National Park Service and the website is here.

The beach near the Bodie Island Lighthouse is a great place to ride horseback on the beach. Guided tours on horseback along the beach in OBX. No experience necessary! Great views, beach breezes, a great experience. Their website is here.

H2OBX water park is not located on the barrier islands of the outer banks. You may have seen it on your way in if you were traveling along Rt. 158, in Powell’s Point, NC near Harbinger. Just a few mile prior to the Wright Memorial Bridge leading to the outer banks. This is a good day trip for the family on a hot and sunny day. There are many water activities, places to eat and places to sit in the shade. Fun for people of all ages! Take a look at their website here.
