ShareMike and I have been married for 30 years, like to get outdoors, meet new people, and have fun! Mike is retired from the construction field and is a true McGuyver, Peggy is retired from the public relations field. Our hobbies include scuba, motorcycles and boating and restful activities such as reading. We look for inspiration and kindness and feel blessed beyond measure. We are constantly making updates to the space to make it more convenient and comfortable for guests, family and friends. For years we called our home(s) the "Gardner hotel" and then got the lake house and in 2016 and decided to make it official. So we treat it seriously but don't take ourselves seriously.

Fine dining in North Georgia?
Check out The Copper Door, a restaurant we recommend to our guests. Wonderful food and they accept reservations. Located in Hayesville, the next town over. The wait staff are also skilled and provide a level of service you don't get much these days. Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds
Near our Airbnb is the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds. If you like to swim, camp, hear music, boat, fish, walk in a garden, go to a festival this is a great place. It actually sits near the GA/NC line. I've already got my tickets to Three Dog Night next month. We are about 2.4 easy miles to the Fairgrounds. Check out the events and join us for the Fairs, music or the beautiful Hamilton Gardens.
Georgia Vineyards
Many wouldn't think of Georgia for wine, but we have very respectable vineyards in North Georgia, namely Hightower Creek and Cane Creek. Both are beautiful settings and well worth the time to visit. Our rental suite is located between the two so very convenient and close to the town of Hiawassee.
Alpaca Moon - Places to See, Hiawassee
This past weekend we visited www.alpacamoon.com and it's worth checking out when you stay at our Lakefront Mountain Suite. This working farm raises alpacas and does tours by appointment. Additionally, she offers day-long classes on making things with the fur (includes farm-to-table lunch!) and sells some beautiful pieces made by the owner. I loved her hand-dyed attire and the obvious passion behind the mission of the farm.
How Many Swings is Too Many?
Well, if you are at our place, apparently there aren't too many swings! We have three swings and a hammock -- could you say we're serious about relaxation? This picture is Peggy up in the swing that Mike has attached to a motorized wench in the big tree. So easy, just push the button and up, up you go! We have hammocks and other swings closer to the ground, too, for the less adventurous so join us at the Lakefront Mountain Suite.
Grandaddy Mimm's Moonshine
Not too far from our place on Lake Chatuge in Hiawassee is a great spot to spend a few hours -- Grandaddy Mimm's Moonshine Distillery and Gift Shop. It has tours and a tasting bar for all the flavors, such as the signature 'shine the 140-proof Mule Kickin High Octane. Surrounding the place are other shops with all kinds of items for sale, plus some are not for sale and are, well, just a bit odd such as the John Wayne figure resting in a corner. It's a place worth visiting and the 'shine is worth buying. Don't forget to get the recipes that come with the purchase. This picture was taken in the over-sized chair just outside the entrance.

What Light Pollution? Bell Mountain and the Night Sky
Getting a clear view of the night sky is harder and harder these days due to light pollution. In fact, some locations are marketing themselves these days as a special kind of dark. But one of my favorites is in Hiawassee Georgia at the top of Bell Mountain. My brother, Bill, took this shot one night. Come and stay with us and see it for yourself: Lakefront Mountain Suite.
Before and After
When we bought our place on the lake, we loved the expanse of windows and walls to the outside. Light-filled and sparkling from the sun, the dark cherry furniture in one bedroom just didn't fit. The house came furnished and it isn't in our nature to get rid of usable stuff. So we painted and I LOVE the difference. The bed is a soft green and the side tables, dressers are soft white and we changed out the knobs. It works because this room has white walls and so it looks even bigger.
Scarred but still beautiful Bell Mountain
In the mountain ranges straddling Georgia and North Carolina sits a vista that at one time in its history took a good heart, plus either strong legs or a horse, or a four-wheel drive to get to the top. Bell Mountain has quite a past and today it serves as one of the most beautiful scenic vistas in Georgia, with 360-degree views across the stunning Lake Chatuge and the rolling hills and highest elevations.
