Real Santorini is not Fira and Oia. The main villages of Santorini were located within the island in places naturally protected from pirates on hills or carved on side of small ravines. One of the most characteristic of them is Vothonas.
Although most of houses are recently constructed, many cave houses of ancient times can be seen around on the sides of a ravine -ancient river waiting for reconstruction.
The village is inhabited mostly by locals working on vineyards and other tourist activities in other parts of the island.
The main advantage of this village is that is located almost in the center of the island so access to many beaches, to Airport, to boats main port, and the capital city of Fira are all at distances of 3-5 kms.
The best point is that you have best holidays far from tourist crowds, plus you have the possibility for exciting walks in the deep country, visiting very old trails , ancient churches, paths with incredible view.
From the very top of the village you can see around and both sides of sea around the island. One side of the wild caldera, the other side to smooth landscape with fields and beaches.
My house (carved and builded on the rock, house of 500 years of age ) consists of two large cave rooms linked together through a small cave dome corridor.
Furniture is simple as much as possible, beds and sofa beds are stone made since the entire island there is no timber trail. The living room is a large vaulted space is on one side a corner sitting area with large cushions, able to accommodate many persons.
Years of meditation and wonderful Parties on the terrace , has filled this home with vibration of sweetness and love .
From the terrace you got an unlimited view to vineyards and far end at the Sea.
