Our Story
In 2001, we have started to practice with traction kites, or power kites. In open spaces, we have used different modalities, such as kite-mountainboards and kite-buggies. Then we moved from land to water, still using the same foil kites, or non inflatable kites. In those days, and with this kind of kites, it was impossible to re-launch the kites once they crashed into the water. They had only two lines and no depower system, no quick release, safety leashes or actual emergency systems either. On top of that, in the early days there weren’t any instructors or schools in the country. It all started as a hobby, a sport or passion that later took a more formal turn. Mid 2002, Upwindkites was formed with the objective to distribute kitesurf equipment, and as a promoting school for this sport in the country. We were part of the birth of kitesurfing in Mexico, as well as witnesses of the evolution of this sport worldwide.
In this sense, we give thanks to our love and passion at large for this incredible sport over all these years. It has provided us with extraordinary opportunities to explore and discover the best spots and destinations of the country, and to navigate in numerous breathtaking sceneries. Through this passion, we have also made many friends in the kite scene.
We had to let go of Upwindkites in order to take care of other professional activities, especially in the corporate area, real estate and tourism. For this reason the idea of Kitesurf Vacation re-emerged – a new project that combines our passion and our professional lives. Kitesurf Vacation is presently part of a corporate group called Grupo-Valverde. With this we count with substantial experience and a strong backbone related to different professional aspects, acting in synergy with agencies in real estate, tourism, sports or travel respectively.
