Inspired by the ancient Magnolia Grandiflora tree in the courtyard, Magnolia Cottage is a perfect holiday cottage for couples. Awarded 5 stars by the AA, this quality conversion is a comfortable retreat whilst exploring this beautiful part of South Devon.

Originally part of the west wing of listed Lanscombe House, the dowagers house for Cockington Court, this property features high ceilings, open plan ground floor and large bedroom with Sleigh bed and lovely views towards the village.

However, the best feature is its location on the outskirts of stunning and historic Cockington Village but just a short walk to the seafront , Torquay and the whole of The English Riviera beyond. With so much to see and do here as well as our beautiful beaches, coves and headlands, it’s a great holiday destination.

Cockington village, Country Park and Cockington Court Manor House used to be a private estate and is now a popular destination for visitors.

The village properties are predominantly thatched and built of cob & stone. The village has been preserved for many years with strict planning laws and designated a conservation area and therefore retains these wonderful cottages as if time stood still. It is much loved by locals and holidaymakers alike. You will find adorable Tea Rooms where you can sample a traditional Devon Cream Tea, a gallery & gift shops, a working water mill and a wonderful village pub. The Drum Inn was built by famous architect Lutyens, the only property constructed of a grand scheme planned in the 1920’s but halted by the Second World War.

Cockington Estate was owned privately for hundreds of years, originally by the Cary family (1371 to 1654) and then by the Mallocks (1654-1932) until the estate was split up and sold. Cockington Court Manor House in its current form was built in 1679 with subsequent modifications but it is believed there were buildings in this location for many hundreds of years beforehand.

Today, Cockington Court, the stable yard behind and brand new purpose built studios are home to 20 or so independent crafts businesses. You are able to watch them create unique items within their workshops and purchase many items directly. Many of the ‘creators’ produce bespoke, commissioned pieces. Examples of crafts include glass blowing, silversmithing, leather working, blacksmithing and furniture making.

The 450 acres of Country Park surrounding the village and Manor house are made up of formal areas, lakes, woods and farmland. Historically it contained a huge deer park, a walled warren where rabbits were farmed & lakes where trout and carp were farmed by the Monks at nearby Torre Abbey. It is rich with history but today is just a beautiful and peaceful place to be.

Torquay, Paignton and Brixham collectively make up the area known as The English Riviera all overlooking our beautiful bay, Torbay.

Nearby Torquay became popular during Victorian times for its mild climate and the architecture of the buildings reflect this. Today it is a modern resort with visitor attractions, lovely beaches, pubs, cafes & restaurants to enjoy.

Paignton is well suited to family holidaymakers with lots of attractions for children and great beaches.

Brixham is the second largest fishing port in the UK and is as attractive as any Cornish harbour. Pretty, multi-coloured houses adorn the hills overlooking the harbour and it’s the best place to enjoy local fish landed here.

Nearby Dartmoor is a short drive away and makes a great day out.

University city of Exeter is a short drive or attractive train journey away as is the coastal city of Plymouth. Both steeped in history but with all the amenities of a modern city.
