WELCOME HOME - take a break and soak in the scenery at this Smoky Mountain oasis. Perched at 3900ft with incredible long range views, the Honey Bear Retreat is located in the private gated community of Alarka Highlands-just 20 mins from downtown Bryson City.

This newly constructed log cabin features 2500 sq ft of indoor living space and over 400 sq ft of outdoor deck space with panoramic views. You will appreciate the casual charm of the cabin's large interior with tongue-in-groove walls and vaulted ceilings with beams, and luxury flooring throughout the main level.

Looking for indoor entertainment? This retreat has a 42" flat screen HDTV with Direct TV and DVD Player in the living room, a 32" flat screen TV in the main bedroom, and a 42" flat screen HDTV in the lower level. The lower level has a recliner love seat and recliner chair as well as a game table.

The kitchen is meant to make you feel like you're right at home with a stainless steel sink, garbage disposal, and granite counter tops. The stainless steel appliances include an electric stove, microwave, and dishwasher. The kitchen has everything you will need (pots, pans, utensils, plates, bowls, silverware, etc.) to cook up your favorite meal during your stay.

The main floor bedroom features a king-sized log frame bed with a new pillow top mattress, matching log chest, two log nightstands with lamps, and a large walk-in closet. Off of the bedroom is a full bathroom with a large, glassed in, tiled shower that is open to the beamed ceiling. The bathroom has dual vanities and suitcase stands for your convenience.

The second bedroom is located in the walk out lower level and features a queen bed and TV.

The cabin has a third bedroom on the lower level that will remain locked during your stay (no one else will be at the cabin during your stay). We will consider opening the third bedroom if needed for an additional nightly rate. If you have circumstances in which you would be interested in using the 3rd bedroom, please message us.

The second bathroom is located on the main level and has a tub and shower combo and a large single vanity. A third bathroom is located on the lower level and also has a tub and shower combo and a single vanity.

Take a dip in the private hot tub where you can enjoy the long range mountain views. We highly recommend relaxing after a day of hiking by star gazing from the hot tub, it is gorgeous on a clear night. There is easy access to the hot tub from the lower level. You’ll also find a laundry room with a washer and dryer located in the basement for your use.

There is a fire pit and a fire ring on site to enjoy the cool mountain nights roasting marshmallows for the perfect smores.

This cabin offers the perfect balance; peace, quiet, comfort, and views that will take your breath away. If you want to enjoy the great outdoors and log cabin with open beams and wood ceilings this cabin is for you. Relax outside with the fresh mountain air or just enjoy the quiet serenity and comfort with high-end furniture, fireplaces, large kitchen and dining area. You can enjoy the breathtaking mountain views from the kitchen, dining room, and living room.

Honey Bear Retreat is located in Alarka Highlands, a prestigious gated community about 20 minutes from Bryson City. Situated in the middle of the Great Smoky Mountains, this cabin is the perfect place to get away from it all while still being close to the conveniences of town. The cabin itself sits at the top of a mountain, providing guests plenty of privacy and unobstructed panoramic views. For entertaining, the community has a pavilion with a large stone fireplace. There are several hiking trails to enjoy the beauty of the mountains right here within Alarka Highlands.

Bryson City, Nantahala Outdoor Center, Fontana Lake, Harrah's Casino, Cherokee, Nantahala River Gorge (white water rafting), Tsali Biking, Fontana Lake, and an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway/Smoky Mountains are all a quick, scenic drive away. The Bryson City area is home to wonderful restaurants, breweries, the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, hiking, zip-lining, trout fishing, and canoeing. Maggie Valley is close for snow skiing. Many local small towns offer shopping and dining as well.

A short drive will take you to restaurants, shopping, museums, and historic attractions of Bryson City. Take the night off from cooking and check out the local fare in downtown Bryson City. Enjoy a comforting meal at the historic Fryemont Inn (ask for Sarge at the bar) or Everett Street Diner, go for a margarita and Mexican favorites at Guayabitos Restaurant, or get a taste of the local craft beer on the rooftop at Mountain Layers Brewery, one of our favorite stops.

There’s no shortage of activities in the Great Smoky Mountains. Make the quick trip up to Deep Creek to hike up to a waterfall or set up shop by a fishing stream, while mountain bikers take advantage of the nearby trails. Also enjoy many hiking trails in the area (even a few trails within the community), rafting, trout fishing, tubing, zip lines, Clingmans Dome and other attractions. The Casino and Golf Course in Cherokee is only 50 minutes from the cabin. Only 1 hour to Ashville and nice 90 min drive to Gatlinburg.

The address can not be found on GPS due to the recent construction of the cabin. On Google Maps, “The Honey Bear Retreat” gets you 99% of the way there. The driving app WAZE will direct you to the road within the community and we can provide more detailed directions upon booking. Cell phone service can be spotty on the drive up the mountain, we recommend making sure to have your directions saved.

Expect some steep roads, but they are very manageable. We recommend that you arrive the first time during daylight hours as it can be very dark and there are no street lights on the mountain.

We're a couple of Chicago natives that fell in love with the peace and serenity of the NC Smoky Mountains. We love all that mountain life has to offer, but especially hiking and chasing waterfalls. Thankfully, Western North Carolina has an abundance! The goal is for your stay to be one filled with rest, relaxation, and to truly provide a "home away from home" experience in our cozy cabin.
