Hawthorne/Belmont Retreat - East bd
Vacation Home hosted by Ann
3 Guests . 1 Bedroom . 1 Bathroom

Overview

Your quiet, cozy room is near 3 of Portland's best foodie and local shopping districts with many vintage clothing stores. Reserve EAST or WEST - the upstairs bedrooms in our family home. Each one has a new queen bed, mini-fridge, walk-in closet, and they SHARE a large bathroom with a clawfoot tub/shower. Guests are welcome to enjoy our front porch or back yard, but we don't share our kitchen or laundry. We live privately on the main floor with our CAT, T'Challa. We look forward to meeting you.

THE EAST ROOM
FYI: if the room you were hoping to reserve does not show up for your dates, it isn't available. WE DO NOT CHARGE A CLEANING FEE, BUT THE CITY ADDS 15.5% TAX AND A $4 PER NIGHT ADDITIONAL FEE TOWARDS AN AFFORDABLE HOUSING FUND.

The East room, like the West room, is private and has the same digital lock as the front door with your person code programmed into it for your stay. It is a cozy room on the street side of our home and the window looks out on a large magnolia tree that blooms once a year usually in mid-March. The East room SHARES the only bathroom with the West room (not with us). It has a new queen bed with a memory foam topper, a mini-fridge with filtered water, and a walk-in closet stocked with robes and additional pillows, blankets, and towels.
NOTE: There are NO cooking facilities, nor a microwave, laundry, or a community living space. HOWEVER, WE INVITE GUESTS to relax on our large Portland-style front porch or in our backyard garden.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The East room is meant for only 2 guests who share a bed, so it will feel a bit crowded with 3 people sharing it. If you register for 3, the third person has a single-sized air mattress with a foam topper. Some folks find it comfy, others do not. Because the bathroom is shared, we discourage registering for 3, and there is an extra charge of $30 per night for a 3rd person. We offer the option only as a guest convenience. When there are only 2 people in the room there is a one-time charge of $5 to set up the cot. There is no cot charge or 3rd person charge for a child between the ages of 4-12 and if you register for 3, and the third person is your child, that charge will be refunded. There is a maximum of 3 people in a room and that includes children. Sorry, but we do not offer accommodations for children less than 4 years old.

Guests are asked to remove their shoes while in the home; freshly laundered slippers are provided. We do not share our personal living space and there are no kitchen or laundry facilities for guests, but we do provide freshly brewed morning coffee in the front hallway. Tea is also available.

For breakfast, the area is abundant with locally owned coffee shops, food carts, and restaurants, all within steps from our home, or you can have a cold breakfast in your room. Free street parking is available across from our driveway. No city permit is required.

Finally, WE INVITE GUESTS to relax on our Portland-style front porch or in the shady back yard with deck, garden, and KOI pond.

We love meeting new people and we take pleasure in helping you make the most of your visit to our wonderful city. We have made a list of our favorite places to eat – all are close to our home, and we have loads of books, maps, guides, and brochures to help you plan your visit to Portland. However, we can also let you explore and discover on your own if that’s your style.

Our southeast neighborhood is close-knit and quiet but only blocks from a trendy, bohemian-style shopping district with excellent restaurants. Free street parking is available across from our driveway. No city permit is required. We have several beautiful parks close by with duck ponds, tennis courts, and jogging paths. Portland has an active arts and music scene with styles for all tastes. The downtown is on the water and a great place for sailing or a dinner-cruise on the river. The Columbia George is about a 45-minute drive from our home. The Oregon coast is about an hour and a half from here by car.

If you have a car, free street parking is available across from our driveway. No city permit is required. We have two major bus lines within a few blocks of our home. Trimet is the bus system and you can plan ahead by looking at the trip planner on their website. The #14 bus goes downtown via Hawthorne/Madison and the #15 Belmont bus will take you downtown and directly to NW Portland including the Pearl District. Want to borrow a bike? BIKE TOWN is a bike share program with stations throughout the city. One is just 4 blocks from our home. You need to download the app. Both Salmon and Lincoln are wide streets designated as bike friendly and used by local bicyclists. There is access to the Springwater bike and hiking trail about a mile from our home.

A. Our listing is not set up for the safety of babies and toddlers. Children should be at least 4 y/o.
B. We have a cat named T'Challa, and although we vacuum between guests, he might have gone into your room at some time. In addition, the mattress on your bed is not cat dander free, so this is NOT a good fit for people with an allergy to cats.
C. As mentioned several times already, we don't share our personal living space, nor do we share our kitchen.
D. Free street parking is available across from our driveway. No city permit is required. However, DO NOT LEAVE ITEMS VISIBLE IN YOUR CAR day or night, as we sometimes have car break-ins in our neighborhood. If you can’t unload your car into your room, then we suggest that you find a different listing.
E. Both guest rooms have keyless lock pads and each guest is given a personal 4-digit code to get you in the front door and also into your room. For everyone's security, these personal codes are entered and erased from the locking systems for each guest's stay.
F. Finally, we are registered as an Accessory Short-Term Rental (ASTR) with the City of Portland as required by law. Our ASTR permit # is (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) HO.

Owner

My husband, Lee, and I are both retired. Lee was the finance manager for one of our large local food co-ops and I was a medical technologist and then taught English to speakers of other languages. We are interested in building local economies rooted in sustainability, resiliency, and community. We like to relax with our cat, and we also enjoy the outdoors, live theater, movies, and the monthly national newsletter "Funny Times." Neither of us smokes. We look forward to meeting you.
