Happy Rock Bed and Breakfast - Gladstone

Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, this early 1900's home boasts spacious rooms and serene porches. Situated across from the once booming Gladstone Depot, this rental is close to the James River State Park, the historic Appomattox Court House, and charming Lynchburg Virginia. While here you can explore everything Virginia has to offer. It's just a short drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway for a scenic ride, a hike in the mountains, or a tubing trip down the James River. Other activities could include taking in a live performance at Wolfbane Productions in Appomattox, just 12 miles away or taking some adult beverage tasting at any of the dozens of wineries, breweries, and distilleries. Several establishments have outside seating and are within a 45 minute drive.

When done with the day's activities you could then head into Lynchburg for the food scene at Bluffwalk Center Project, a hot spot for dining downtown. The building is a huge former shoe factory, which has now been converted into multiple restaurants, including Shoemaker’s, Waterstone Pizza and Jefferson Street Brewery. Inside, the exposed brick and high ceilings make for a chic and timeless setting. When returning sit on the front porch watching the twilight set in, maybe if your lucky, a train will be quietly idling as it's conductor receives for the day's orders and moves train car around on the five sets of tracks. Trains frequently stop here, not a frequently as they did when the town was incorporated in the 1800's, but often enough that you should be able to see one up close by just relaxing on the porch. It's unlikely they will blow the horn as there is no crossing, but the Original Depot still stands and will soon be a museum for Trains and the town of Gladstone.

Once done for the evening you may wish to relax in the over-sized soaking tub in a large bathroom stocked with premium linens and complete with stacked washer and dryer for your convenience. In the master bedroom the comfy king size bed has a down alternative comforter and duvet cover. This room also has a huge walk in closet for longer stays and plenty of room to hang clothing. A corner desk provides the master bedroom with a space for a few work emails, if you decide to bring your laptop and use the wifi. The living room is large and has a 40 inch Roku TV that is linked to the wifi to stream movies to wind down your day. The second bedroom has a double bed and oversized down alternative comforter and a reading lamp as well as a walk in closet. The stocked kitchen has a microwave, glass top electric stove and conventional oven, full size refrigerator, and dishwasher, coffee pot, and toaster. We also include wine and water glasses, dishes, silverware, pots, pans, and a variety of utensils. Outside on the back deck is a sitting area where you can listen to the creek and grill out on the charcoal grill. The back yard features fruit trees, animal shelters, horse shoes, and a bridge to nowhere for the adventurous!

We also offer custom specials if you prefer to staycay with us. We provide no-contact check in and stays, as well as grocery services if you prefer to have some items stocked before your arrival to reduce your contact with the local community. Please note that this is a very low risk area we have a very low covid19 rate. Tubes and Tastes for 2 $100 ( meal only $65)

This upgrade offers an approximately 2-hour tubing trip down the James River in nearby James River State Park. This trip subject to river and weather conditions. Upon your return a lunch or dinner will be personally prepared for you which will include hickory smoked BBQ, blue ridge sauce, slaw, buns, corn on the cob, fruit shortcake with fresh whipped cream and sweet tea or Lavender lemonade. Please let us know at time of booking if you would like this upgrade.

Breakfast in Bed and Late Check out at 2 pm $50
A gourmet breakfast or brunch will delivered at your chosen time between 9 and 1. Please let us know if you at time of check in if you would like this upgrade. Your menu and time choice will be selected then.

Local chocolates and a large flower bouquet in your room at check in.
