Vacation rental in Masset, Haida Gwaii, AKA The Canadian Galapagos Islands! This 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath home is perfect for that Canadian getaway you've always dreamed of. Located in the town of Masset, we're located within easy reach of just about everything on the island. Fishing, crabbing, clamming, surfing, kayaking, hiking, rock & shell collecting, camping, sight-seeing and adventures galore to be had on these charming islands.

Over the short time since we've opened our home to guests, we have enjoyed hosting first time visitors, medical professionals on rural rotations, those returning for family celebrations and reunions, people who are investigating Masset as a possible relocation spot and of course, sports fishermen/hunters for which this area is a mecca.

The house, which retains most of its original feel from it’s days as Private Married Quarters for the Canadian Military is comfortable, well located in a family oriented cul-de-sac, yet just a few minutes walk to most stores and restaurants in town.

It is furnished with our guests’ basic needs in mind.... minimalist yet with most of the amenities and conveniences of a full time home. The interior is bright and offers two bedrooms with comfortable queen beds and the third smaller bedroom has a twin bed. All beds have spare duvets for those cooler evenings.

A fully outfitted kitchen should provide the needed essentials for most cooks, the living room has a comfy sofa and chairs to relax in and a large screen TV to enjoy when you have finshed exploring for the day.

Outside you will find a large picnic table and a BBQ. We do provide a few larger pots that can be used on the ‘Q for cooking those lovely North Beach crabs or clams outside!

A private driveway allows for at least one, possibly two vehicles to be parked off road but there is also plenty of street parking available.

Currently, the property is not completely fenced, so any small dogs who are allowed to stay MUST be on leash or in full control of their owner at all times and cannot be left alone inside the house. This is a shared wall property and guests must respect that.

OF NOTE: It is a 2 story, 1/2 duplex. All bedrooms are on the second floor with the laundry facilities in the basement, so this property is not suitable for anyone who cannot use stairs easily.

Any guest bookings must be done by a person 21 years or older. Approved & Valid Government ID will be requested for all persons staying on property 18 years and older.
Payment Policy
Payments will be received by PayPal or e-transfers (Canada only)
Refundable Damage Deposit
Damage/security deposit is refunded within 1 week and after manager has inspected premises and found no faults OR any required repairs or anything required to bring the home back to the state it was in prior to original check in date/time, has been completed.
Cancellation Policy
Full balance AT BOOKING to secure booking for dates requested above.

Cancel within 48 hours of ORIGINAL BOOKING DATE and receive full refund.

Cancel between 30 - 14 days before check in date and get a 50% refund of RESERVATION TOTAL BALANCE.

Cancel within 7 days of your check in date and security/damage deposit only will be refunded.

House Rules
We are environmentally sensitive and do appreciate when our guests can assist us while they are staying in our home.

1. Please wash, dry and put away all dishes prior to check out. Dishwasher - If hand washing dishes isn't your thing, then it's better to do two smaller loads than one overloaded cycle. You will actually be cleaning your dishes rather than causing additional cycles to be required to clean the previously used dishes. Also, do NOT leave dishwasher running unattended. Thanks, it's very much appreciated.

2. Please strip the bedding and place in laundry basket prior to check out, along with all used bath and kitchen towels. There is a laundry basket for each room. If they are not found in the room when you check in, they will be in the basement at the washing machine.

3. There is a bottle return on Main Street if you have returnable bottles, etc.

4. Please take all garbage out to the bin in the front prior to check out. If you are staying longer term, Be Bear Aware! Garbage is picked up on Wednesdays and while there is a fairly sturdy garbage receptacle available on the property, it is by no means 'Bear Proof'. Try and place food related garbage in the receptacle as close to pick up time as possible. Apparently there have been some new changes to garbage pickup and that means all garbage must be in the garbage bins in plastic garbage bags and not just in old shopping bags or else it won't get picked up. Thanks for helping keep garbage from attracting bears into our community and for complying with the Village of Masset's requirements for garbage collection during your stay.

5. Lights & Electricals! We do appreciate when guests are as aware of their consumption away as they are at home. It's very appreciated when lights are not left burning unnecessarily, thermostats are turned down when no one is home and other electrical items that are not in use are unplugged.

6. The BBQ outside is the best place to cook crab! There is a larger canner pot that can be used on the BBQ for crabs etc. so please do cook these wonderful tasting delicacies outside and NOT inside the house. Please turn off propane bottle as well as the BBQ after usage.

7. Access the house by using the side door and that is the only door that has a keyed entry lock. Please ensure all doors & windows are closed and locked when you are not in residence. Failure to do so will mean you are willfully accepting responsibility for anything lost or stolen from the property during your stay.

8. Dryer! Please empty the lint trap after every drying cycle. This helps prevent any buildup and minimizes possibilities of fires starting in the dryer or vent.

9. As noted in the listing, this is a Non-Smoking residence. Please use the great outdoors for smoking and use appropriate receptacles for your cigarette butts. Ensure all are properly extinguished before placing in the garbage bags when taken to the bin. Any guests found to have been smoking any type of material in the house will be subject to a additional cleaning fee starting at $100 and up depending on level of odor eradication and general cleanup required to eliminate completely any evidence of smoke and/or associated damage. Thank you very much for respecting our home and helping to keep the property as clean as possible.

10. Please take note that we do not supply any equipment for fishing, clamming, crabbing, etc. If you wish to take part in any of these activities during your stay at Dogwood House, ensure that you bring your own equipment.

11. Internet service is provided as a courtesy to our guests and is not considered to be part of the daily rental price. Unfortunately, we cannot control when there may be disruptions in service. This does happen at times and usually is pretty short lived. This means we will not consider any requests for refunds due to a disruption in service by the provider or a fault outside of the property.

12. Any dogs or cats that have been given permission to stay on the premise are required to be on a leash and in the company of their owners when outside. The yard is not fenced, so it is each guests responsibility to maintain control, at all times, of their pet. Dogs are not allowed to be left unattended in our home at any time or for any reason. Our property shares a wall with a neighbor so this is an absolute requirement as we allow zero disruption to our neighbors. Cats may be left for short periods and only if they are crated/kenneled. All Service animals, regardless of level or type, must be in the company of their person at all times and may never be left alone on or in the property.

13. Additional Guests – only those who have been included on the original rental request are allowed to be on premises overnight. Guests may be added with prior permission by the owner and upon acceptance of the additional per night fee per guest. There are no parties or events allowed on this premise and we require all guests to respect our neighbors and follow quiet time between 10pm – 8am.

Getting around

You will need to rent a vehicle if you do not arrive with your own, to get around the island but if your stay is in Masset only, everything is within walking distance and there is a bike rental located right in town.
