Come stay at our cozy, completely renovated 1920's cottage nestled on 3 wooded acres. Secluded & private, yet just 1ish mile away from a grocery and a coffee shop, 15 miles from Southern Pines & Pinehurst, 25 miles to Pottery Highway in Seagrove.
The cottage has 2 bedrooms (1 King + 1 Queen) 1 full bath, a huge back patio, a creek and lots of nature along with all modern comforts including central AC & heat, high speed (200 mbps) WiFi & TV.
Perfect for couples and families with children.
First, a little about us. We are a couple in our 40's who enjoy traveling quite a bit. We currently consider Houston our home base, but up until a few years ago we lived full time in our cottage in Carthage. When we purchased this house in 2005 and then renovated it with painstaking detail, it was our full intention that it would be the last house we ever lived in. But, after living in the cottage for 6 years, life took some twists and turns and we ended up moving back to Houston (Jessica is originally from Houston). Because we could not bear the thought of selling our house that we so lovingly rehabbed, we decided to share our little treasure here in Carthage with others that could enjoy it as we do.
House:
Built in the 1920's, the cottage was originally used to house a family that worked in a nearby town's textile mill. This house and the one across the street were sold and moved here to Carthage in 1978. In 2005 we saw this house and the 3 beautifully wooded acres it sat on and knew we wanted it. Over the course of 2 years we completely renovated it, custom designed & curated every detail.
The cottage is now completely modern and equipped with heat & AC, high speed (200 mbps) WiFi, TV and more. This is not a rustic cabin but a full house with all modern comforts. Which is my perfect way to enjoy the outdoors. Not only does the cottage itself sit on 3 beautifully wooded acres with a stream but is further surrounded by forestry beyond that. If you are looking for private, secluded, and quiet - well you’ve found it.
Bedrooms:
The house is quite "cozy" at 800 square feet but it can sleep up to 4 people so it is perfect for a couple that want a quiet getaway, small families or just friends traveling. Two bedrooms are available to use.
The back bedroom has a super comfortable Queen size sleigh bed with pillowtop mattress and an armoire for storage. If you are like us and need to catch up on a little work from your laptop, you'll find a desk in the master bedroom as a convenient workspace. The back bedroom also opens up to a deck and gorgeous patio. We love to enjoy our morning coffee out there and listen to the birds chirping.
The front bedroom features a King size bed with a new plush Beautyrest mattress. There is a closet equipped with hangers and a shelf to put a few things away should you need.
Living room:
We like to spread out on the sofa, 2 midcentury chairs and 2 bar stools in the living room when relaxing or working from our laptops.
Bathroom:
We have one full bathroom with a step in tub and shower combo.
Kitchen:
The kitchen and living room are essentially the same room as our home is just under 800 square feet. When we have a meal we usually eat at the bar on the 2 bar stools or go outside to the patio to eat at the large 6 person patio table. We also offer TV trays for our guests who prefer to eat in the living room.
The kitchen is fully equipped with an apron front hand-hammered copper kitchen sink as well as toaster, microwave, refrigerator, stove/oven, ultra quiet Bosch dishwasher, coffeemaker, tea kettle and coffee grinder. You’ll have everything you need to cook a family meal, bake cupcakes, or just make coffee + toast and use the microwave for simple reheating. We provide a blender, crock pot/slow cooker, pots, pans, dishes and all utensils.
Coffee. We love it! So we provide what any coffee lover would need. Electric drip coffeemaker, filters, coffee beans, electric burr grinder, Chemex and of course sugar and sugar alternatives. There's a number of different tea bags as well because tea is good too.
Kid stuff:
Because you're probably traveling with enough stuff already, we do have a high chair, a Pak n' Play, and plastic eating dishes for small kids.
Entertainment:
Lounge inside to check your email, or wander outside to research bugs and birds on Wikipedia. Our flat screen TV is hooked up to Amazon Prime so you can watch unlimited shows and movies on our Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and Vidangel accounts, or sign in to any of your accounts to watch what you want (NFL, NHL, HBO, MLB, etc). For "regular" cable TV channels just click on the Xumo app.
Patio Lounging:
We have a propane gas grill available for you to grill up a nice steak if you like and then enjoy it on our expansive patio while listening to birds or watching the fireflies.
The Outdoor Space:
There are three acres of land so you’ll have plenty of room to roam, either to play a game of soccer or explore the forest. Read a book on the front porch, back porch, in the hammock or expansive back patio. Explore the stream running along the property when the rain has come. Just a word of caution: if you do choose to do a little exploring along the property or venture down to see the creek, please be careful. Most of the property is uncleared and wooded (plus “relics” of the past may still be lingering around the property) and we wouldn't want you to hurt yourself. In addition, we ask that you please avoid the tiny house in progress as we put the finishing touches on our latest project.
History of Carthage
Carthage, NC made it's mark on America by being the largest manufacturer of horse drawn buggies from the mid 1800's to 1920's. So you'll see a lot of buggy "themed" stuff around town, including our favorite little coffee shop called Buggy Town Coffee just a mile from the cottage. You'll also find a lot of late 1800's to early 1900's beautiful historical homes around the area. After booking and if you like, we'll let you know about our personal favorite owned by a local eccentric that's crumbling to the ground year by year which only makes it that much more interesting.
Other areas nearby
The cottage is close to a number of towns around Carthage including Whispering Pines, Southern Pines, Pinehurst, Robbins, Seagrove, West End, Vass, Cameron and Sanford.

We are a couple in our early 40's, have no children and one lazy dog. We love to travel and see this beautiful earth.
As a guest we are low key and considerate. Wherever we stay we like to pretend we actually live in the places we visit. We will cook meals at the houses we stay, we'll watch TV, do a little work (one of us works from a laptop only) but we'll also see the local sights.
If I had to describe our hosting style I would say we pretty much expect our guests to be the kind of guests we are. So feel free to cook in our place, kick back and relax and enjoy yourself. But, of course, treat it kindly along the way :)

If you are planning to bring a service animal, please message me with the following info: #1 Is this assistance animal is required because of a disability? #2 What work or task has the animal been trained to perform? Please provide all of this information at least 48 hours prior to your arrival. This is required before you check in to the property.
