Duke U/Duke Med. Living rm w/fireplace; bthrm/shwr; kitchenette w/Nespresso & generous amenities; wifi; TV. Lush garden. Superhost since 2014, w/350+ 5-star reviews.

Enjoy a visit to the "tastiest town in the south" and be hosted by an Airbnb Belo Award recipient. This private 1000-sq. ft. 2-bedroom guest apartment is a welcoming & quiet respite outfitted with king & queen Casper beds. Living room w/fireplace; wifi, kitchenette; TV. And a lovely garden that's worth a stroll.

The two-bedroom flat is just off University Drive, a half block from Forest Hills Park. The apartment's private entrance is from the carport. There's a guest closet in each bedroom. One bedroom is equipped with TV, DVD, radio, CD. The living room sofa is outfitted with linens, too, should an extra bed be needed. A pack-&-play is provided for those with infants and toddlers. Wireless internet. Work desk. Lovely, fenced garden with patio in rear.

This space is ideal for business conference & film/arts/festival attendees, touring artists or crew, med center visitors or university student family members, wedding or graduation guests. Guests are especially fond of the garden where they frequently enjoy their morning coffee or evening drinks when the weather allows. A bottle of chilled Prosecco in the mini-fridge awaits your arrival.

Ample breakfast amenities are provided. Enjoy morning coffee or tea or an afternoon cocktail out in the garden. Breakfast items provided include coffee, tea, oatmeal, granola, fresh fruit, yogurt, milk, juice, English muffins & more. You’ll find imported chocolates in your welcome basket when you arrive. A Nespresso coffeemaker is provided in the kitchenette. (Please note that this AirBnB space doesn't really lend itself to long-term stays for those who desire to prepare full meals on site, as the kitchenette only features a microwave -- but no cooktop or stove.)

Conveniently located 1 mi. from DPAC & the Durham Bulls stadium; 1.5 mi. from central downtown & the Carolina Theatre; 3 mi. from Duke's West campus & Duke Med Center.

Please don't hesitate to ask questions if there are any issues you'd like to clarify before confirming your reservation. So far, it's been a really wonderful experience all the way around with AirBnB. An AirBnB guest even hosted her wedding in the garden out back one summer. I was fortunate to attend the Airbnb Open conference in Paris in November 2015, along with 5000 other Airbnb hosts from 110 countries gathered for the event. Tragically, the horrendous terror attacks occurred on the second night of the conference. In November of 2016, I joined 7000+ hosts from 100 countries for the Airbnb Open in Los Angeles, where Airbnb premiered their TV commercial about the Airbnb wedding at the Belo Awards Ceremony at the Orpheum Theatre, hosted by James Corden -- with Lady GaGa and Maroon 5 as the night's entertainment!

You can learn more about your award-winning host, his business 'goingbarefoot,' and view the Airbnb commercial by visiting the goingbarefoot website. Ten percent of the Airbnb proceeds support scholarship programs of The Experiment in International Living.

This is a private apartment comprising the lower fl. of a 60s brick split-level on an unpaved wooded lane near Forest Hills Park. The private upper level is the home of the host. Again, please note — this apartment does not provide full cooking facilities... The kitchenette does include a microwave, mini-fridge, coffeemaker, sink, etc. There is no cooktop, however.

During your visit, the homeowner doesn't "hover" -- but is readily accessible for any assistance, questions and concerns, and enjoys suggesting some of the many attractions that make Durham such a great place.

Guests are requested to check-in between 3-7 PM whenever possible. Arrangements can be made for exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Checkout is required by noon unless arranged otherwise in advance. It's a quiet neighborhood, and low late-night noise is appreciated. On arrival, please check in at the front door, if I haven't seen you drive up... Additional arrival & location details will be discussed when we communicate in advance of your scheduled arrival. I am honored to have gained Airbnb Superhost classification after my first three months of hosting, and have maintained that special status of hospitality and guest care continually since fall of 2014. I was honored to receive one of Airbnb's international Belo Awards at the Airbnb Open in 2016.

The host & homeowner is semi-retired performing arts presenter & agent (goingbarefoot inc.) who'll greet you on arrival and be available to answer questions and provide recommendations about local attractions, dining, neighborhoods, etc. (I've placed about ten local recommended spots in the Airbnb "Guidebook," but there's much more to share... You'll find my lengthy restaurant guide in the House Manual you'll receive from Airbnb with your reservation confirmation, and a hard copy is also provided on site.) Just be aware that the ever-expanding culinary scene grows so quickly it's hard to keep up!

This Airbnb apartment in Durham is on the edge of the historic Forest Hills neighborhood, convenient to downtown, and easily accessible off the Durham Freeway. We're approx. 15 minutes drive from Chapel Hill, 20 minutes from RDU Airport, and a half-hour from Raleigh. Numerous informational publications about Durham's acclaimed local cultural & culinary attractions are provided on site, and your host will happily share facts and fiction about all. Durham is a creative, welcoming, diverse, vibrant city community. (If 21c chose Durham as home to one of its incredible museum hotels, then you know it's pretty cool.) Here's a wonderful introduction to Durham's food scene -- aired on PBS in September 2018: https://www.pbs.org/video/durham-jdk0nf/

It's slightly less than a 30-minute leisurely walk from the house to central downtown Durham, and a few minutes less over to DPAC or the Bulls stadium. Taxis, Uber & Lyft are easily accessible; it's about a $6 ride-share fee to be taken downtown, and usually around $22-24 to or from RDU. Central Downtown Durham offers a Bull City Connector fare-free bus system. The historic Amtrak station near Brightleaf Square is less than 1.5 miles away. Electric scooter share programs operate in Durham, and a couple of car rental sites are under two miles away from the Airbnb apartment.

The northern entrance to the 22-mile American jogging & biking trail is slightly less than one mile away, near the Bulls stadium. Forest Hills Park is a half-block away.

It's one mile from Durham Bulls Athletic Park, DPAC & the American Tobacco complex and 1.5 miles from the historic Carolina Theatre, central downtown galleries, and downtown Durham's great food scene; 3 miles from Duke Medical Center, Duke's West campus, Duke Gardens, Duke Chapel, & the Lemur Center (make advance reservations for visits there!)

Uber & Lyft are easily accessible and dependable.

When my schedule permits, I am delighted to take you on a complimentary half-hour driving tour around town to orient you to the charms of this little city if you'd like -- so please don't hesitate to tell me you'd enjoy that type of experience. It's totally my pleasure.

Unless you've made special arrangements with the host, no pets are permitted in the guest apartment, please, due to homeowner’s own furry residents upstairs (one highly self-impressed long-haired cat named Peyroux and one rescued standard poodle named Beauchamp.) However, the pets don't come into the guest apartment. They have access into the back garden via the doggy door to the deck and always enjoy meeting the Airbnb guests when invited!

I am semi-retired after a 30+ year career in performing arts presenting and arts administration. I own goingbarefoot, inc., a small boutique artist management agency, representing actor/playwright Mike Wiley and vintage country music duo The Malpass Brothers. I am currently serving as Executive Producer of a new feature length documentary film in production about jazz singer Carol Sloane. You can learn more by visiting goingbarefoot online.

I am a journalism graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, and served three years as a US Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya, East Africa. Later in the 70s, I worked in Vermont for the national office of The Experiment in International Living before returning to North Carolina. I opened the jazz supperclub "Stephen's After All" in Chapel Hill, NC in the early 80s, and later was managing director of the historic Carolina Theatre of Durham before incorporating my own arts management business in the 1990s.

As an Airbnb host, I was fortunate to attend the Airbnb Open in Paris in 2015, and then again in L.A. in 2016 where I received a Belo Award as one of the three global Host Story winners for the year for the account of the "Airbnb wedding" hosted in my garden in the summer of 2015.

Pasttimes include gardening, cooking, film -- and I continue to be wowed by the amazing little city that Durham, NC has become. 'Hope you'll fall in love with it, too... Be in touch with any questions about a potential visit.

I do not support the exclusionary divisive actions of the North Carolina legislature or the U.S. Congress. And we never studied 'fake news' in journalism school.

A portion of your Airbnb rental goes to support the scholarship program of The Experiment in International Living.

A. Once your reservation is confirmed, you will automatically receive my detailed personal 'house manual,' whose info includes comments and recommendations on lots of local restaurants and other attractions. The manual also includes safety and operational info in case of a power outage, etc. B. I prefer that guests do not bring pets (due to my own pets feeling a bit possessive of the property at times, and problems with property damage that have occurred when I did agree to guest pets...) On rare occasion, there may be an exception for a well-behaved small pet who would remain crated whenever in the apartment space, so long as the issue has been discussed with me in advance and we have agreed. C. Only officially-registered guests are permitted on premises. Reserved guests may invite family members or friends for a visit during your stay, of course, but such visits should be approved in advance. D. If yours is a multi-night reservation -- and the number of guests varies per evening (eg. two people the first night, another couple joining the next day, etc.) then your reservation for the entire stay must be made indicating the maximum number of guests who will be on site for any given night. Please note that permitting any other guests additional to the number reserved will resort in a host's infraction report to Airbnb with applicable surcharges. E. Children-under-two are not counted in the # of guests as far as the differentiation in price for more-than-three persons. F. Up to two guest vehicles are permitted on site. If more than two cars are part of a group's stay, any vehicles over two will be required to make arrangements for off-site parking. G. Coordinating your check-in time is important. We will communicate prior to your arrival date to work out further details on your arrival/check-in. Thank you for your cooperation and your willingness to maintain the arranged schedule. Check-in prior to 3pm or check-out past 11am are not permitted unless such arrangements have been fully-agreed between guest & host prior to stay. H. Should you be inquiring about hosting a garden wedding, please send me your details and hopes in a host inquiry and I will respond. Please note that there are additional charges to the standard rental fee for wedding events. I. Upon check-in, you will be asked to provide emergency contact information on the check-in form provided on the desk. After having been in Paris for the Airbnb conference when the terror attacks occurred there, Airbnb's concerted efforts to individually reach each of the 5,000 hosts gathered in order to check on our status and to notify family if requested left a deep and meaningful impression on me. I request your emergency contact information not at all as any type of invasion on privacy -- but to have on hand should a situation occur while you are on the premises that would merit utilizing that information. Thank you for your cooperation. You'll find the check-in form on the desk in the living room. J. The following liability waiver is in effect for all guests, whether or not the guest arrival check-in form is completed or signed: Landlord/homeowner shall not be liable for any damage or injury occurring on or about the Premises to Tenant, Tenant’s family or Guests except in the case of Landlord’s failure to perform, or negligent performance of, a duty imposed by law. By presence on premises, Tenant hereby agrees to protect, indemnify and hold Landlord harmless from and against any and all losses, costs, expense, damage or liability arising out of any accident or other occurrence on the Premises or any part thereof, or in any common area, causing injury to any person or property whomsoever to whatsoever, no matter how caused, except in the case of Landlord’s failure to perform or negligent performance of a duty imposed by law. Landlord is not responsible for damage to Tenant’s personal property resulting from fire, storm, rain, flood, power outage, appliance failure, theft, vandalism, leaking fixtures, acts of God, etc. Tenant accepts responsibility of insuring his/her personal property. Please don't hesitate to be in touch with any questions at all. To learn more about my work and space, you can visit goingbarefoot on the web.
