Hi, I'm John VanderMyde, and I've been involved with real estate, construction, and design on the Outer Banks of North Carolina for the last 24 years. I own three vacation rental homes; I designed and built two and remodeled the third. I also help my wife with our real estate sales team The VanderMyde Group.

I love renting directly to our guests as I find it very rewarding when people enjoy our homes. I try to be reasonable and accommodating when ever I can, and I like to trust my guests to take good care of our property. However, if I get a sense of entitlement or rudeness from an inquiry, I'll usually pass on it. I'd rather have an empty house than an upset guest! Having said that, out of hundreds of rentals over the past few years, I've only had a couple of bad ones.
