Villa Arbolada - beach, bike & hike - Alcalalí

The charm of the village square with its bars, the soothing friendliness of the inhabitants, the low mountain range that offers so many easy opportunities for walking and cycling: that is what attracted us immediately in this place. And that only a half hour drive from the coast, with various food & drink opportunities within walking distance.

Our villa is the perfect place for everyone who enjoys the combination of a relaxing holiday, with a little activity from time to time.

If you want it all (just like we do), then this region is perfect! The Jalon valley is literally 'the nose of Spain', halfway between Valencia (110km) and Alicante (80km). The climate in the Jalon valley has been named by the World Health Organization as the most healthy in the world. Others say that the sun shines on average 300 days per year. We always experience wonderful times, in all seasons, and want to share that feeling with you.

As the name implies, our Villa Arbolada is beautifully situated between the trees. It can accommodate up to 6 people and has two bedrooms (with air conditioning) and two bathrooms on the first floor. Downstairs, next to the private pool, is possibly a separate (simple) apartment with a third bedroom and private bathroom, toilet, shower and kitchenette. Central is the large south-facing balcony, with sun (almost) all day, and a fairytale view of the villages in the valley and of the sunset behind the Col de Rates. With a bit of luck you can even spot a squirrel.
You can easily sit with six of us on the balcony, but if you prefer to sit back, just go to our lounge area; here you can relax in the afternoon while the children have fun in the shade. Or would they rather lie in the pool? You can also laze in one of the beach chairs there, sun or shade is up to you.

The pool is maintained all year round. UV filtering and nightly gradual dosing ensures that the water is very hygienic without the need for a lot of chlorine. The water temperature depends on the weather, but because the pool is in the sun, the temperature is normally around 28 degrees from mid-June to the end of September. If the spring goes well, you can also swim at the end of May, on the other hand, the swimming fun is usually over for us when a number of cold fronts have crossed over in October.

The villa also has a very spacious living room with a nice sitting area for winter evenings, two dining, puzzle or game tables and a cozy open kitchen with a 'breakfast bar'. The kitchen is equipped with all kinds of conveniences, such as an oven, gas stove, kitchenware, combi-microwave, dishwasher, but above all: an espresso machine and a juicer. There's nothing better than a glass of home-squeezed orange juice on the balcony, waiting for the squirrel...

If you want to do something active after breakfast, Alcalalí and the surrounding area are in the right place: there is really a lot to discover here. There is a folder with activities in the villa, but feel free to contact us in advance for more details or personal tips.
It is not for nothing that Tom Dumoulin, Annemiek van Vleuten, Matthieu van der Poel and many other professional cyclists regularly train here. Occasionally even the Vuelta comes through our valley. Thanks to the many cyclists, there is even a large cycling café with a terrace in Jalon, although Bar Toni in Alcalalí is also often 'over-talked'. In the house there are four mountain bikes that are suitable for daily use and small trips on asphalt. For more serious work, road bikes and full-suspension mountain bikes are available for hire in Jalon (also available for delivery).
The possibilities for beautiful walks are really too many to mention: the almond blossom walks in February (can also be admired from our balcony without a walk), various mountain ridges with a view, varied walks with many or few altimeters. Of course, the short walk to Jalon (flea market on Saturday) or Parcent (eating paella at Era) are nice loafers for the first day. The same applies to cyclists and hikers: the combination with a paella at restaurant Vista Bernia on a clear day is really tip no. 1.
In addition to swimming in our own pool, you can also swim on one of the beaches nearby. They come in all shapes and sizes: large wide sandy beach (such as Arenal or Devesses) to small intimate rocky (such as Granadella).

If you prefer the trips less strenuous, the possibilities are also numerous.
