About me

Gary Hidden a very friendly, easy going, and welcoming fellow who truly loves the Airbnb experience both as a traveler and especially as a host to guests from around the world. My first guests arrived in November of 2013 and I've since opened my front door to others from 25 countries. Each of my guest rooms are cozy, welcoming, and unique. I have a simple goal to provide a comfortable, special, and inviting place to call "home" when visiting our beautiful and vibrant city. My guests are welcome to enjoy a movie in front of the fire in the living room, have a candlelit dinner in the dining room, cook up a tasty meal in the kitchen, and enjoy relaxing in the hot tub & yard surrounded by fountains, flowers, greenery, and serenity.
I'm really just a renaissance man. I've worked as a high school teacher, a behavioral health therapist, small business owner, gardener, builder/thinker/crafter, and most passionately as a professional actor for 40 years, mostly in musical theatre but also on camera. I'm also a grateful "friend of Bill W."
I've always enjoyed meeting new people. Local theatre, music, books, restaurants, being outdoors, gardening, movies, are just a few pieces of my life. I also love a road trip, traveling, any "water destination" (ocean, river, lake, stream, or pool!), and enjoying the sunshine whether it's in my convertible, on a hike, diggin' in the garden, or just a walk.
My home, URBAN HAVEN as I call it, is my castle! I share it with my two adorable pups, SeeBee & Mannie; they're really my kids. I'm also caregiver for my dad, Gary Sr., who spent a decade on the streets of Santa Cruz County until 7 years of searching led me to him. Dad is a quiet and extremely kind man enjoying our being together and grateful for his 2nd chance at life.
I take extreme pride in my simple home of 22 years. I welcome every guest with a smile and a "make yourself at home, relax & enjoy" invitation. I'm happy to give suggestions of things to do and see, let guests explore on their own, and even get suggestions from my guests about "what's new" that I haven't even seen yet myself.
My simple motto ... "the only way to true happiness & real freedom is from doing the right thing, not because you have to but because you want to!"
