We've had so many birders over the years!! They will know the huge variety of birds you may encounter but for those who are unfamiliar . . .

I am not at all sure about what birds frequent Glenn House but I would think being just around the corner, Garcia House birds would also frequent over there.

Extremely Common: Doves, sparrows, finches, hummingbirds, pigeons.

Also common: Hawks. Yep . . . Hawks do very well in urban areas and our two most common hawks are the Cooper's Hawks and Harris Hawks. It's not so great to see a hawk swoop in and see feather's fly as they've grabbed a dove for a meal :-( but that is the circle of life. Look high for hawks . . . You'll see them on top of poles regularly.

Quail: It is so WONDERFUL to spot a quail family with Mom and Dad and little gray balls of gray cotton following them! Gambel's quail are common and often found in the front and back yard of Garcia House. Quail do a-okay in midtown and are reasonably easy to spot.

Roadrunners: Midtown is so populated now that I haven't seen one here for a while. Used to be there was enough open space and such that you could spot a roadrunner fairly regularly but no more. They're out there on the perimeter of town and further. Beep, beep!

Owls. I'm never lucky enough to see an owl but they're around! And assorted varieties too!

Gila Woodpeckers. These guys are common and often noticed when pecking at the HVAC on homes!

Vultures aka Buzzards :-). Once in a while you'll notice these guys up in the sky circling around. In midtown, you've got to look up to see them and I don't find it common but then there's outside of town where you can find them hanging out on a tree or eating a roadkill meal on the pavement. :-( .

The Verdin. My personal favorite! These guys are adorable and have yellow faces and make a sound that once you know it, you always know it. You may not see them as they're only a little larger than a hummingbird and they hide really well. They eat lots of bugs too!

Let's not forget to mention two beautiful red birds you may see: The vermillion flycatcher is stunning and I have a personal VF buddy I see most cool mornings at Brandi Fenton park and then there is also the Pyrrhuloxia AKA the desert cardinal. He's grey and red with a crest and she looks just like a cardinal only all gray. Keep your eyes open and you'll see these guys on occasion.

More!! Too many more!!! If you want a guide or Audobon book, let me know. Also check our annual events calendars for more birding info and fun!
